I'm not much of a movie girl and dont watch out for what is playing or coming out soon. I have no TV, so I see commercials. So if I got an email asked, if I, that an audiobook book for colored girls who have considered suicide when the Rainbow is Enuf of Ntozake Shange would I was thrilled, I would finally get to hear that I had only read this amazing Choreopoem. And I find it was made into a movie with a star-studded cast and my knees gone all weak.
Here is a little excerpt from the poem to give you a taste:
I have lost it.
Joke touching reality / I don't know who is doing it
I thot I WAZ but I WAZ so stupid I WAZ able to violate
And this is not real / no more / I shd be immune / when I'm
on life and that is what WAZ Discussin / how I am still
alive and my dependence on other Livin' of leg for love
I survive on intimacy & morning / is everything I've got goin
& music WAZ how smack & you knew Abbot, the
& refused still my dance WAZ not Enuf / & I had it WAZ all
but leg alive & leg a woman & leg is colored a metaphysical
Dilemma / I havent yet conquered / see the point
My mind is too old to understand the separation of
Soul & gender my love is to have triggered tricky
back on my face
