A week in the life a children librarian

I have you given insight into many of my days as a children but to be fair, I tend to choose librarian days, where I make a program or something is happening. I thought it would be useful a look you in a week, what goes in our Department, so today I'm posting about last week.

I work in a Department of six persons, total and we all do work programs on the desktop, etc.. Last week was for me personally, especially busy because some of the programs I had planned happened on the same week fall. But the program load is pretty typical for a summer week for uns.Im summer our Department very busy when we have a program because families are prices for the summer reading Club collect, read books, etc..

I worked day shifts every day this week (usually one full-time person in my Department works a night one week, but this week, I had a program on Thursday morning, so I worked the day shift instead). The day shift is 8: 45-5: 15, but I usually come from 8: 30 to 8: 40.And since I the boss (and therefore employees), I often stay late, especially in summer.I have not before 5: 30 pm, every day this week and a few days I stayed to 6 or 6: 30.(I'm not complaining - only let know! this is as it is during the summer!)

So, here was my week:

Monday

We had come a member of staff at the Louisville Orchestra and offer two story and music workshops for children. I was I not for this program, but in a few times pop because we never had on our library and I wanted to see how it went. With all our paid performers we have a person staff in the room with you, with the participation, (in some cases) crowd control, and there where it is needed.

This Monday's time sheet day, so I have to everyone's to collect time sheet, make sure you sign accurate, and each employee days worked record in your record sheet.

Tuesday

We had toddler time for 2 and 3 of the 10: 00 A.m. and then preschool Storytime for 3-5 at 11: 00. I have it either these programs but I sit on the toddler time, as T on holidays that are next week and I do it. There's always this perfect storm on Tuesday morning, between the two programs if we are all from the toddler period which still hanging out in the Department and then the older children collect for the next Storytime. It's all hands on deck!

Wednesday

I had the morning Mother Goose on the loose. This is our baby program and this week we had 19 babies and infants (under 2).This is a little crowded for convenience so that I can open an additional meeting in autumn (if even then the masses can... have placed)

In the afternoon I helped with your Percy Jackson H Party.Wir had only about 30 children in grades 3 and higher. we have a trivia contest, blue Aß food and made a camp necklace craft. fun! But it took much preparatory work to set up and decorate the room. Phew.

Thursday

We had toddler time at 10: 00 - I sat back. Then at 11: 00 I a program called offered float or sink. This was for K-2nd grader and I read a few stories and then we experimented by would to see objects in small pan of water to float, and which would fall.

Thursday afternoon we had a group coming from a local day care.A and I read stories about summer and then we have a craft foam visors decorate left over from a craft from last year.

After the program, I had a collection development meeting with my boss and some of the other department heads.

Friday

I had a trade program in the afternoon. We have drop - in craft almost every Friday in summer getan.Wir wanted with at least an all - ages, drop in (how did people register) program have each week and the craft are went well.We have 30-40 had, children come every week.

--

Thinking you have for each of these programs set up and get the room. This includes moving tables and chairs, putting out tablecloths, craft supplies, etc.It can contain, decorating the rooms. And, of course, everything is after we finished sind.dadurch is the time required for each program typically 30-60 minutes adding.

I'm in between all these programs work the desktop and a lighter desk load than other people in my Department actually have other Dingen.Ich, but each person is generally 10-15 hours per week on the desktop geplant. In of my Department plan we usually only one person on desktop at a time, although there are almost always other people to cover are when we are busy Get.Im summer people often additional hours on the desktop to cover, gebucht.Im brings the spells summer work on the desktop signature children up and award prizes for the summer reading Club, as well as reference and directional answer questions, to help people find books for patrons with computers, signing people for programs, etc..

I am also follow up on everyone's programs, ensure that my employees have all the materials you need to ensure that things in order laufen.I'm working on Buchbestellung.Ich of my employees during compilation of orders get help, but I went through each order go, before we send it, make sure that we are something not duplicated and the carts filling, so that it easier for the Budgetierung.Diese week I registered for the CYPD Conference have, so I was picking out sessions and book a hotel for us.

It is always a constant struggle to prevent the thing are piling on my Schreibtisch.Jede week I am going through donated books to choose what we want for our collection or prices (the rest go to the friends of the library book sale) .Und if I ever a spare minute I try to find out about the journals I accumulate sich.Oder you grab a car and there a little weeding.(Weeding is difficult, because I love to do it, but it tends to be on the bottom of my priority list, because no real time there...)

And I could go on and on about all the other little things I do during the week, but this post is monstrous and you get the idea on each Fall.Dies is! it is any wonder down valid I the days 'til August counting?:)

Grace Elizabeth Scott

Grace Elizabeth Scott. Classes 9 and higher. Dutton, September 2010. Checks by the Publisher of ARC provided. 208 Pages.

Grace was to die, but you could not do it.

Grace is an Angel, a suicide bomber, the work for the freedom for people. While Keran Berj terrorized everything, keeping strict control over the country people are fighting for freedom for the country.Use, by whatever means necessary.

Grace was adopted that the Minister of culture to kill by your bomb explode, as it stood at the front of a crowd that day hear him sprechen.Sie should go in a flame of fire and drift into the arms of Heiligen.Aber like you in the blue sky saw that you die could not recognized you.

So, instead it runs.

Uh, WOW.
I had an idea that Elizabeth Scott's latest book of un put down-can would be and man, have to be true.I read the book in one sitting because I just it could put down (and I was tired, so this is saying something!).

It is a speculative world but Ms. Scott brings the reader so far in this world could be world. It could very well be places in our world. The story focuses on Grace's decision, their people on your flight to the border exit security. It is a whirlwind turns trip, and the novel back and forth to give the reader snapshots of Grace's childhood, your Angel, training, your mission and the extreme violence that is commonplace to grace.

This book is just absolutely überzeugend.Es will spark definitely interesting conversations and young people to give a unique perspective.

Oh, and I must take a moment and appreciate, that is so very striking breathtaking Cover.Es and absolutely true to the Buch.Ich love that it also are used to see a photo of a face, so popular in those days) on a completely new way. eyes really haunting.Dies is a cover, that goes out Abby Kuperstock on someone's eye made about the bookstore fangen.Gut!

I would recommend this for fans of Elizabeth Scott's living dead girl and other edgy YA (perhaps Ellen Hopkins?).

The Mockingbirds by Daisy Whitney

The Mockingbirds Daisy Whitney. Classes 9 and higher. Little Brown, November 2010. Reviewed by ARC snagged at BEA. 352 Pages.

Alex is a piano student at the elite boarding school Themis Academy. Themis is a bit different than your average high school. Full details about how of the Mockingbirds - I loved all the checks and balances, in the system, the elaborate ways had warnings which was students at the study's progress eingebaut.Ich find it a little hard to believe, elaborated and accepted by students in the short time this sophisticated system since Alex's sister in school (was a matter of a few years), but I had no problem, suspending my disbelief for this part of the book.

A bit harder to believe the fact that absolutely no adult authority Alex. while I always help and would repeatedly said that the school administration do nothing when Alex reported rape, but I was never that was shown. After completion of the book and reading woman Whitney's author note (the author was raped date College and successfully pressed charges although their school administration had a history of turning a blind eye), I am more on board with the premise.
